Today, I was able to leave work a little early (which never happens), so I decided to go on a hike. The sun was shining, the wildflowers were out, the people were friendly, I had a great companion, and I was happy just to be there.

Cowles Mountain is one of the hikes that I do most often in San Diego, because it is relatively close to home and it can be done quickly, but it's still a good work out because it is a decent elevation gain. Plus, it is the highest point in the city of San Diego and offers a nice 360 degree view from the top. The hike itself is about a 1000 foot elevation gain in 1.5 miles to the top (so it's 3 miles round trip).
