I find joy in... developing young activists.

develop: to bring out the capabilities or possibilities of

activist: one who takes intentional action to bring about social, political, economic, or environmental change

I sent this large stack of letters out today.  These envelopes are addressed to various corporations from my students. They hold mock advertisements created by my tenth graders and letters they wrote asking the corporations questions about their practices and encouraging them to be socially just regarding issues such as labor or conflict minerals.  They have been working on a project called "The Truth behind the Labels," and this is the final send off.

The title of this post mostly refers to the ideals of my teaching and not the reality, but it is fun to try to develop young activists. At the end of last semester, one student said in his presentation of learning that no matter what job he had when he grew up, he wanted to be a peace activist.  There is hope for this world, my friends.
