Matt and I like to have date nights. It's become necessary this year with him being so busy in grad school. Sometimes it is nice to do something out of the ordinary that costs a little more and requires one to dress up a little, but I'm at heart a simple girl that likes to go to the same places over and over and eat the same thing. Last night, we had a reservation at a nicer place that we have been wanting to try, but we ended up canceling it and just going to Small Bar instead where we could dress comfortably and warm, eat comfort food, and sit comfortably for as long as we wanted to. I used to not really enjoy going to a bar for a date, but I have come to like it, because you can stay as long as you want and maintain a slow pace for the night, whereas at a restaurant, they are always trying to get you out as quickly as possible. At a bar, you can sit and talk for hours. Plus, the people watching is so much better.
The ultimate hipster. A shirt with birds on it, a tweed thrift store jacket, a massive beard, and beer. Yes, I make fun of Matt by calling him a hipster. |
Scary self portrait. |
We always share a Portabello mushroom sandwich, and if we are feeling really unhealthy, we also get fried pickles. If you have not tried fried pickles, you must. They are amazing. When Matt and I became vegetarians, we were in search of the best Portabello mushroom sandwich in San Diego. After trying many, we have decided that Small Bar's Portabello mushroom sandwich wins first place.
