What I Did On My Birthday

I have decided that 25 is a good age and I don’t really need to get older than this. I feel like a real adult for the first time, in the sense that I feel like I have grown into myself and am okay with just being me. Ages 23 and 24 were a bit of a search for my identity and I think that with age 25 comes the realization that I don’t need to try to find my identity. I can just be.

Things I did on my birthday that made it great:
• I ate a chocolate chip cookie for breakfast.
• I hung out by myself in my house for most of the morning.
• I bought my favorite coffee drink, which I usually don’t do because it is too expensive.
• I wore a scarf.
• I enjoyed the first feeling of fall weather coming upon us.
• I ate sushi for dinner.
• I went to see a concert of one of my favorite bands, The Swell Season, and another great band, Iron and Wine. As Glen Hansard would say, it was brilliant.

Things I didn’t do on my birthday that made it great:
• I didn’t do any homework.
• I didn’t go to school.
• I didn’t go to work.
• I didn’t clean the house.
• I didn’t even make my bed.

Hope you had a happy October 3 as well.

  2. Brooke, I love this post. You are a woman after my own heart. To recognize and enjoy the simple pleasures, and to celebrate ourselves whenever possible. I applaud your realization re: your identity. You are wise to make that recognition at a young age. I love you. HB. mom
