It went something like this...
and now we are home.
Unfortunately, the worst part of our trip was the plane ride back. Let's just say that true love is when your spouse holds open that little blue throw up bag found in the airplane seat pocket for you, and even goes to the bathroom to flush it down the toilet. Vice versa, twenty minutes later, you hold open a little blue bag for your spouse to do the same. Yes, we were those people, and it was not pleasant. Now we are back and healthy though.

This trip had been in our minds for a long time. Ever since our honeymoon in Greece eight years ago, I've wanted to spend two weeks in Italy. We always said we would go for our five year anniversary, not imagining the other international travel opportunities that would come our way in the mean time:

Many adventures for so many different reasons. We had been saving this trip in our minds- a trip just for us- for a long time, through one summer of my grad school and two summers of Matt's. Now our summer adventure is over, but we actually don't feel too sad about it. It was the trip of a lifetime, and we made memories that will forever be with us, but we love our life in San Diego too- our friends, being close to our families, walking our dog around our neighborhood, picnics in the park, a day spent at the beach, bike rides, San Diego beer, teaching youth. It's quite a nice life we have created for ourselves here. So instead of being sad about the trip being over, I am looking forward to what's to come.
Here's what we are looking forward to in the upcoming year after a summer of traveling abroad:
-reconnecting with old friends
-making new friends
-getting back into a regular exercise routine
-cooking healthy, delicious meals in my own kitchen
-enjoying our city
-going on little adventures
-teaching with a passion
-making a baby... maybe

I think it's going to be a great year.

P.S. While I'm totally up for enjoying the present moment and this next season of life, I am already secretly planning my next travel getaway... it's just who I am. However, I don't think it will take place for a long while.
I loved following along on your european adventure! marc & I were just talking about wanting to get out of the country for vacation in 2013, there are just so many places in the world that we want to see!
ReplyDeleteIf you're taking opinions I think you two would make a pretty amazing baby :)
